Defibrillator – how to use and save a life

West Heaton has a Defibrillator for use in emergency, as previously communicated to members. It is easy to use and may help you save a life.
The defibrillator is located in the passageway outside the changing rooms.
Access from the tennis side is by swipecard and from the bowling side by use of the designated key for the door adjacent to the new squash court. This key is located in the corner cupboard in the Bowlers’ Lounge.

Please be aware :
– the defibrillator is easy to use in the event of sudden cardiac arrest
– the machine gives clear spoken instructions to follow when it is switched on

The defibrillator is fully automatic and may help you to save a life in the event of someone suffering sudden cardiac arrest. The machine will make the decision about giving the patient a shock or not therefore no harm will occur to the patient just by applying the pads. If the patient has not had a cardiac arrest the machine will do nothing and no harm will be done so if unsure it is better to apply the pads than do nothing.

By using the defibrillator you will not make the patient’s situation worse and you may save their life.

The pouch attached to the defibrillator contains scissors, shaving razor and mouthguard. These are to help you remove clothing, shave chest hair and help you deliver CPR if necessary.

Please be aware of this and watch the video to give you the best chance of helping a victim.

The link below is for a very clear You Tube video on how to use the equipment. The film is American-made and refers to calling 911 for expert help. Clearly in the Uk this emergency number is 999. Otherwise, this instruction video is exactly as for our equipment.
